Genieve earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Health from Queen’s University in 2000, and her Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2005 from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, Toronto. She has also completed two years of a Masters of Rehabilitation through the University of British Columbia (2007-2009).

Dr. Burley is a Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT200, RYT500), a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT: National Strength and Conditioning Association), a Certified Spinning Instructor (Schwinn), and is certified in the Webster technique for prenatal chiropractic.

Dr. Burley works as a full-time chiropractor with her own healthcare business: Health in Alignment Chiropractic and Yoga. She currently teaches vinyasa, ashtanga and yin yoga for One Yoga for the People and Yyoga, Vancouver.

Passionate about healthcare and wellness, Dr. Burley brings her expertise in anatomy to her yoga teaching, fusing scientific knowledge with ancient practices resulting in powerful evidence-based, holistic classes and treatments.

Research Interests

With a strong interest in athletics, Dr. Burley has treated many professional and recreational athletes over the course of her career. More recently, and following the birth of her two daughters, she has been actively working in the field of maternal and pediatric chiropractic, as well as pursuing her interest in yoga, focusing on the anatomy of yoga and the relationship between chiropractic methods and yoga practices.

Dr. Burley also has a keen interest in the overall effects of nutrition on health and wellbeing, and continually refreshes and adds to her scientific and healthcare knowledge with regular courses and extensive reading.

Teaching Interests

Locally Dr. Burley has been teaching vinyasa, ashtanga and yin yoga on a regular basis. She currently teaches at two respected yoga schools in the Vancouver area: One Yoga for the People and Yyoga.

Dr. Burley has delivered yoga lectures, retreats and workshops internationally. Her expertise in anatomy has led her to be one of the most comprehensive instructors for both 200 and 500hr yoga teacher trainings. She develops her own curriculum and manuals based on current research and has worked with several well known yoga teacher trainings.

Dr. Burley’s goal is to provide her anatomy students with an above average comprehension and passion about the material delivered through different teaching methods and a big dose of humour along the way.

Publications and Activities

Dr. Burley has a strong media and publication presence in BC and across Canada. She has made a total of sixteen appearances on the popular CityTV show Breakfast Television as a guest expert speaking about health and wellness, and has appeared in two episodes on Telus Television discussing raw food nutrition and rehabilitative back exercises. She has presented at conferences on myofascial slings and anatomy with respect to pregnancy (CanFitPro conference, May 2009, Whistler, BC) and prenatal diet and training (CanFitPro conference Nov 2010, Vancouver, BC).

Dr. Burley has published articles on a range of issues related to chiropractic care and yoga in print and online newspapers and journals including the Vancouver Sun, Canadian Chiropractor, Impact Magazine, Elephant Journal and others.
