Brazil is a country of outsized landscapes and endless contrasts, but Bahia holds a particular kind of magic. This stretch of coastline is where river meets ocean, where jungle presses up against the beach, and where life seems to move to a slower, more seductive rhythm.

We're heading to Caraíva, a remote fishing village on the southern end of Brazil’s Bahian coastline.

Caraíva sits on the southern Bahian coast, remote enough to feel like a discovery yet lively enough to keep things interesting. You arrive by road, cross the river by canoe, and step into a village of sand streets, small bars, music drifting through the air, and nights lit more by candles than headlights. There are no cars in the village, which changes everything.

This part of Brazil is known for its warm sea, long beaches, and a culture that understands pleasure properly: long lunches, late dinners, dancing that starts casually and ends when it ends. It’s far from the polished circuits of mass tourism and all the better for it.

The nature here is generous. Expect coconut palms, river swims, star-filled skies, and beach walks that can stretch for hours. Depending on the day, you might spot horses on the sand, bright birds overhead, or dolphins out in the water. There are jungle paths, nearby waterfalls, boat rides, horseback adventures, and plenty of opportunities to do very little at all.

Caraíva is the kind of place that gently reorganises your priorities.

Onde Vamos Ficar. We’re taking over a beautiful boutique property in Caraíva with six bungalows and one cabana (that makes nine rooms in total), exclusively ours for the week. Hidden between tropical gardens, a river and the sea, it feels both intimate and it's also in the center of everything: space to gather, space to disappear.

With a maximum of 15 guests, the retreat stays intentionally small. More personal, more relaxed, more memorable.

The accommodation is easy, stylish, and connected to its surroundings. Natural materials, breezy interiors, comfortable beds, air-conditioning in every room, and outdoor corners made for reading, napping, or lingering longer than planned. This is not a polished resort. It has something better: soul.

A Comida. Two delicious meals each day are included in the retreat price. Expect fresh Bahian flavours, tropical fruit, strong coffee, long brunches, and dinners that stretch into the night. Seasonal, generous, and thoughtfully prepared, with options for vegetarians and any dietary needs shared in advance.

Como Chegar. Fly into Porto Seguro, then continue by road to Caraíva. We’ll organize group transfers from Porto Seguro, with guests sharing the cost. The final arrival is by canoe across the river. Luggage is handled, shoes become optional, and the village opens in front of you: sand streets, music in the distance, no cars.

Atividades. Optional adventures include horseback rides on the beach, boat trips, massages, surfing, stand-up paddle, river swims, nearby waterfalls, and long walks in either direction. Or stay exactly where you are with a book and a caipirinha.

Mais Um Pouco. We’ll practice under the shade of a mango tree. Expect daily movement, warm ocean swims, excellent playlists, spontaneous dancing, and conversations that only happen when nobody is in a rush. Plus hammocks, afternoon naps, and at least one sunset worth dressing for.

What’s not included? Flights, shared transfer costs, optional activities, massages, alcohol, and anything wonderfully unnecessary you say yes to once you arrive.
